The Summer Solstice – Tune into its Innate Power

The word Solstice is derived from the Latin word solstitium, from sol (sun) and stitium (to stop), because the sun gives the appearance of stopping in the sky at this time.  The summer solstice, and in our case for the northern hemisphere, which occurs this year on June 21 at 6:51am EDT., is the time when the planet’s semi-axis is tilted to where it is most inclined towards the sun. As a result of this, the sunlight during the ‘summer solstice’ day is longer than at any other time of the year.  More importantly, there is a very deep significance and meaning to this event, so much so that our ancestors had built ancient sites where they held their holidays, festivals and rituals in honour of the source of our life-giving energy. The foundations of many cultures and civilizations throughout history have been built around the influence that the summer solstice brings. Few today understand or even realize how important this time of year was to these people, for whom it held a much deeper meaning than just a unique cyclical alignment between the sun and the earth. Fewer still understand how to properly tune into its present day innate powers in order to fully utilize these potential energies in their own lives and those around them.
